Inspired by nature

A group of students from the Birmingham Adult Education centre studying Level 3 Beaded Jewellery paid a special visit to Birmingham Botanical Gardens to gain some inspiration for their next project.

Course tutor, Jessica Mayhew and Vena Middleton, Education Assistant at the Gardens arranged for learners to exhibit and sell their work.

The beautiful glass houses and open spaces gave the students inspiration create some exquisite pieces of jewellery based on the seasonal colours, textures and flora.

To complete the learning outcome for the Commercial Brief, finished work was exhibited and sold at the venue during an 'open weekend' at the end of June.

This joint venture was a huge success, with many items of jewellery being sold.  Invitations were issued by the Botanical Gardens to promote the event and to invite friends, family and colleagues to view the finished work.

This successful partnership looks set to continue.  Birmingham Adult Education plans to continue to use the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, an educational charity, for the Level 3 Beaded Jewellery and Level 3 Floristry Commercial Briefs in 2009-2010.
